When I think of the GAMES, I think of HOPE.
The sort of HOPE that is extraordinary.
To the point it shows you that LIFE can be different.
For most within this community, HOPE isn’t instant, but more of a slow burner.
That requires layers of unique HOPE that champion ORGAN DONATION.
So much so, that this HOPE goes back so much further than the first GAMES itself.
To the place where this HOPE started.
To the place where HOPE became the symbol of LIFE.
To the place where the symbol of LIFE became the greatest GIFT.
And where the greatest GIFT became the GIFT of LIFE.
Which are purely down to SELFLESS ACTS, that create miracles that are SECOND CHANCES.
This HOPE is imbedded within the PEOPLE that believe in more.
So, for us the GAMES was the little glimmer of HOPE, we were searching for.
It gave us individuals that understand the hand that you have been delt.
People that have walked the walk, when it comes to ORGAN DONATION.
So, much so, that these people become our CONFIDANTS and, in some cases, our CHOOSEN FAMILY.
WHY?
Because all these individuals understand these unique layers of HOPE and the TRAUMA that occurs within these hidden walls.
And we all understand the importance of SECOND CHANCES and SELFLESS ACTS.
All because we have been touched by ORGAN DONATION which has changed our lives forever.
Our ALLIES, our COMMUNITY, our GAMES FAMILY.
So, while our COMMUNITY are gathered together, we HONOR the DONORS and the concept of the GIFT of LIFE.
And we try and show the outside world the BENEFITS of TRANSPLANTATION and continue to encourage each other to STAY ACTIVE.
Also, by showing the world we encourage others to join the cause, by making their WISHES KNOWN to others within their inner circle about ORGAN DONATION.
By doing this it breathes new life into the circle of HOPE.
So, even that the GAMES are only 4 days long, the messages we preach and live by, CONTINUES.
So, back in August, Billy and his FRIENDS competed in Nottingham for KING’S CHILDREN TRANSPLANT TEAM.
This 4-day spectacular event always starts with an OPENING CEROMONEY on the first night.
From the holding area to the ceremonial ground there is a true feeling of anticipation which makes the atmosphere truly electric.
For one, the sea of colour of team tops is just breath taking, especially when you start to realise what they represent.
From the TRANSPLANTED PATIENTS, LIVE DONORS, the DONOR FAMILIES and their many SUPPORTERS.
All showing off their team kit with pride and chanting their team names and singing their songs.
The hustle and bustle of people moving around, greeting each other, some old and some new.
Even that most people are engrossed in their chanting and team spirit, there is always time to greet friends from other teams.
Once everyone is fired up, we march into the ceremonial ground to be greeted by the host city.
For many this march represents the journey all these warriors have been on and gives you a brief moment of reflection on your own personal situation.
Even that we are all representing different COUMMUNITIES, we are all CELEBRATEING the same cause.
The miracle that is ORGAN DONATION.

So, once the GAMES are officially opened, its time to compete.
As you start soaking up the environment, you start to realise the unique nature of the GAMES.
From toddlers to adults competing together, side by side.
All curious of each other’s journeys, within LIFE and the GAMES.
Quietly honouring and applauding each other’s successes, so much so that WINNING takes on a new meaning.
The pure acceptance that everyone is valued makes the WIN versatile.
To the point the WIN is not seen, but the journey to get there is.
This prevents the feeling of being over looked, due to their WINS not looking like a LOSS.
For some the physical and mental journey within their recovery have been a struggle and often takes a toll on their abilities to turn up or perform.
Which can take years of healing and support from COMMUNITIES like these.
So, when Billy belly flopped into the sandpit and ran with sheer joy written all over his face.
His TEAM applaud him and celebrate with him.
In Honour of his WIN and his FIGHT to be there.
The HEART, the HOPE, the LIFE LINE.

By now you may have started to realise that the TRANSPLANT GAMES, is so much more than a sporting event.
This event is a life line for many.
By creating the shear feeling that you’re not the ONLY ONE.
As for Billy, he recalls his FRIENDS and says at times, ‘Do they have to do this too?’
Mostly the answer is ‘Yes mate.’
Even that this doesn’t take away the pain or the relentless pill taking, it does emphasis he’s NOT THE ONLY ONE and that he’s NOT ON HIS OWN.
