Over the years, Alec and I have been known to have off the cuff mad purchases.
In the olden days this was normally fuelled by our favourite tipple and accompanied by some garden relaxation in the sun.
There has been a common theme to our purchases over the years, enjoyment.
Just to give you a flavour, we have spent our hard earnt cash on a tipi, canoes, paddle boards and a bongo campervan.
Since having Billy, all day drinking hasn’t been a big feature within our lives.
But surprisingly the spending still crops up occasionally.
So, over the last 6 and a bit years, I have come to the conclusion that we just enjoy nice things.
But like most things, these splurges do have rules, the buy must be within our means.
Over the last couple of years we have had a Bongo, a great bit of kit if you don’t mind setting up on arrival.
In a way we had out grown, our little blue fun bus.
It was great for a couple of night away or as a day tripper, but longer stays were quite difficult with 3.
So, on one Monday in January 2024, we dropped Billy off at school and went to a prearranged viewing on multiple motorhomes at a dealership.
This was to get a feel of the layouts and what may work for us.
We confirmed with each other that we where just looking and we were too old to be making such rash decisions.
Famous last words
So, by 10am, we had signed the paperwork and put the deposit down on our new motorhome.
After a few weeks the motorhome was delivered.
In our house the naming ceremony is just as important as the purchase.
After a bit of deliberation, Harrold was born.
After Harrold the helicopter from Thomas the Tank Engine.
The motorhome has an uncanny likeness to the character and I’m sure with time it will have a face to complete the vision.
So, this weekend we went to make some precious memories at Devon Truck Show in Harrold.
The show ground line up was fab with Paul Hannam ATV Stunts quad bike show and Big Pete, Grim Reaper and Swamp Thing the Monster Truck Show.

Mother nature was a little unkind with a good helping of rain that left the ground conditions a little soggy to say the least.
The stunt drivers, monster truck drivers and their support teams worked incredibly hard to put on an unforgettable show that was safe for both them and the public.
And they manage it above expectation.
Outside the arena the ground under foot was very muddy to say the least, let’s say mud sliding was on the agender.
It was lovely to see so many kids and big kids immersing themselves within the show and not allowing the mud to spoil their fun.

Just on a side note.
A big shout out to all the very friendly staff that worked tirelessly to put wood chipping and hay down so the show could go on.
Also, thank you for kindly towing us out of the camping field after Harrold got a little stuck.
Outside the arena there was lots to see and do, with a Mini RC village set up, Mini and full-size monster truck rides, Wall of Death and Vander super heroes’ wheel of death.
I have never seen the wheel of death before, but I can honestly say I had to close my eyes on a couple of occasions in fear that the stunt men aka spider man and superman may fall off.

We must not forget the main reason for the show, the hundreds of Trucks that open the show each day by the sound of their horns and luminate the sky by night with their fantastic light shows.
All the trucks are so individual with their custom art work and the interiors are quite remarkable.

Billy and I found a breast cancer awareness truck by J.M Transport, which was quite fitting as Billy was diagnosed with Stage 3 PTLD Cancer around this time in 2020.

The trucks are such a mesmerising sight that can be appreciated by all ages and non-enthusiasts, especially at night.
If anyone knows Billy well, you will know he loves a good party and the Devon Truck Show defiantly delivered on that.
Billy was introduced to Judge Jules and The Wurzels.
I’m not quite sure if the music was quite to his taste, but never the less he immersed himself in a little dancing and fully enjoyed a fruit shoot from the bar.

Apart from all the wonderful sights of the show, I must acknowledge all the amazing people we had the pleasure of speaking too.
It always amazes me how kind people are from site organisers, the performers, and the crowd.
So, once again, THANK YOU Devon Truck Show for your amazing commitment to this spectacular show.
See you next year.
Remember you may not feel strong but you are
Love
The Rose-Tinted Mum
